On Saturday January 23, 2010 the Centre d’Animation en Langues – Animatiecentrum voor Talen, in association with NSTS English Language Institute Malta, organised a very special teacher training event which took place on our famous Biouel Boat moored on the canal in Brussels.

Mr. Louis Grech, Director of Studies at NSTS English Language Institute Malta flew in to Brussels especially to offer a superb teacher training course aimed at teachers of English working in the CVO (Centrum Volwassenen Onderwijs) in Flanders and the Ecoles de Promotion Sociale in the French Community.

The course dealt with the topic of ‘Exploiting Multiple Intelligences in the English Language Teaching Classroom’ and gave teachers many ideas for creating practical classroom activities designed to appeal to each type of learner in a classroom.

The event was completely free of charge and attracted 40 participants from all over Belgium. All the participants reported having learned very many useful methods and classroom ideas, as well as having appreciated the welcome on the boat as well as the chance to meet and exchange with so many of their peers. It was also an excellent occasion to discover the English language learning opportunities available in Malta.

The absolute highlight of the event was the official vin d’honneur offered at the end of the event by His Excellency Pierre Clive Agius, the Ambassador of Malta to Belgium. Ambassador Agius was delighted to present individual certificates to each of the participants and praised the great work done for language education in Belgium by both the CVO and the Ecoles de Promotion Sociale.

Also present at the event were Mme Danielle Mylle, Inspectrice de l’Enseignement de Promotion sociale; dhr. Jan Koeken, Head of the CVO Netwerkoverschrijdende pedagogische werkgroep talen and Mr. Francis Stivala, Principal of NSTS English Language Institute Malta.

This event also served as the official launch of a competition open to all teachers of English working in CVO schools in Flanders and Promotion Sociale schools in the French Community. The prize of 2 weeks English teacher training in Malta from August 17 – 26 2010 is being offered by NSTS English Language Institute, and the selection of winners will be carried out by us here at the Centre d’Animation en Langues – Animatiecentrum voor Talen, in the framework of a most interesting competition.
